FAQs
How do I apply for my gun permit?
The application starts at the Indiana State Police Firearms website, https://www.in.gov/isp/firearms.htm. Once the application is submitted a link will appear to set up your fingerprinting appointment with Identigo, https://in.ibtfingerprint.com/. After your fingerprints are complete, visit your local law enforcement agency based on where you live (for example, if you live in any city limit with its own police department you will visit that city police station’s office. If you live outside of any city limit you will visit the Sheriff’s Office.)
How do I obtain a protection order?
This process begins in the County Clerk’s Office. You may stop in their office to begin the paperwork, or go online at public.courts.in.gov.
How do I evict someone from a rental property that I own?
You will file for an eviction in the County Clerk’s Office. Only after a Writ of Assistance is filed with their office can a Sheriff’s deputy assist with the removal of a tenant.
Does the Sheriff’s Office perform HIN inspections for boats and watercrafts?
Just as ATVs are off-road vehicles, so are any watercrafts and boats. To have a HIN inspection done on a recently purchased boat you will need to contact the DNR for a Conservation Officer’s assistance.
Where can I take prescription medication that is expired or no longer needed?
The Sheriff’s Office holds a dropbox in the jail’s lobby for prescription medications in tablet or pill form only—liquids and needles are not accepted. Keep the medications in their bottle containers and place them into the dropbox, where they will be taken and disposed of by a third party to maintain full confidentiality. If you need to dispose of needles or EpiPens, please contact a pharmacy to purchase one of their kits, or ask your trash provider for any medical waste services they may offer.
How can I pay for my traffic ticket?
At the bottom of the traffic ticket, there is the name and number for the court to which the fee is to be paid.
